Unveiled at the Tokyo International Audio Show in July last year, the “Sonora” from the Danish speaker brand Peak Consult captivates with its overwhelmingly luxurious cabinet, crafted from high-quality, thick wood and fine leather. The brand’s origin dates back to 1996 when Per Kristoffersen, an audiophile and woodworker, decided to rebuild the cabinet of a pair of speakers he had purchased to improve their sound. Subsequently, in 2021, the company was transferred to Ehlenholtz and Renat Jensen, the founders of Dynaudio, evolving into a high-end speaker brand utilizing the latest technology and expanding its market presence. The Sonora is the slimmest and most elegant model in the lineup, a 2-way floorstanding speaker. Yet, each unit weighs a substantial 68kg. Equipped with a 23cm passive radiator on the rear, its ultra-low resonance cabinet, pursued to the utmost limits of robustness, delivers exceptional low-frequency reproduction and balance that is natural and free from distortion. Its greatest charm lies in its sound: vivid, realistic, and organic, achieved by suppressing sharp, excessive brightness.
