2025 Hong Kong High-End Audiovisual Exhibition | PMC Briefing

At this year’s Hong Kong High-End Audio Show, PMC showcased its latest Prophecy series at booth S427: the Prophecy1 two-way two-driver bookshelf speaker, the Prophecy5 two-way two-driver floorstanding speaker, the Prophecy7 three-way three-driver floorstanding speaker, the flagship Prophecy7 three-way four-driver floorstanding speaker, and the ProphecyC center speaker—all five models. The brand’s longest-running model, the BB5, was also present, alongside Burmester Electronics, for a music demonstration. The BB5 SE, still going strong, delivered convincing sound performance. While not a new model, years of continuous improvement have cemented its irreplaceable and prestigious position within the PMC lineup.

Driven by Burmester Reference Line equipment, the BB5 SE delivered an incredible sound in the S427 room, with an exceptionally open and spacious soundstage, and tight yet impactful bass, as powerful as a car engine. The balance was flawless, making you truly feel that the music you were listening to was more prominent than ever before, irreplaceably presenting a vast yet lively soundscape. I think this is what good speakers should be; the audience was captivated by the relaxed and highly dynamic sound performance released by the BB5 SE.

Clearly, the BB5 SE’s cabinet is a bit large for a typical home room, but fortunately, the MB2 SE, with its moderate size, performs equally well.

The Refreshing New Prophecy Series

The Prophecy series embodies PMC’s overall design philosophy, drawing upon years of experience and knowledge in designing professional-grade monitors. These speakers are designed to create the music you love to listen to. Never before has such a large volume of sound been released from such a sleek and compact cabinet, thanks to the latest generation of groundbreaking patented LaminairX: an aerodynamic transmission line port design. This fully unleashes the true potential of PMC’s classic Advanced Transmission Line (ATL™) speaker design and the new top-of-the-line drivers, creating a lifelike soundscape and delivering powerful, room-filling low-frequency performance.

PMC’s legendary natural and realistic sound originates from its Advanced Transmission Line (ATL™) cabinet design. This design utilizes the energy generated by the woofer’s backwave in the smartest and most efficient way. The cabinet’s ATL ducts are lined with proprietary sound-absorbing material that absorbs all sound waves except the lowest frequencies, allowing low frequencies to be released through the front air vents, further extending the low-frequency response and creating a bass performance that is larger and more powerful than the speaker itself.

However, ATL is not just about low frequencies. Because the low frequencies are clean and clear, they don’t mask other sonic details, making vocals more transparent and instrumental details more vivid and lifelike. Meanwhile, ATL speakers are less dependent on the acoustic environment of the space, delivering excellent low-frequency performance without relying on reflections and resonances to enhance the low-frequency effect. This allows you to freely choose speaker placement and easily integrate them into any space.

More than a decade ago, PMC engineers introduced the aerodynamic principles of Formula 1 racing into the audio field, creating the Laminair aerodynamic transmission line port design technology. Today, with the advent of the Prophecy series, this technology has further evolved into LaminairX and is perfectly combined with ATL™ advanced transmission line speaker design technology. Few technologies can have such a profound impact on sound quality and music enjoyment, and the LaminairX unlocks the full potential of PMC ATL. This innovation is not only significant on a technical level, but also allows every listener to directly experience a significant improvement. ATL advanced transmit-line speakers require generating high-speed airflow within the transmit line, which involves complex fluid dynamics. The LaminairX employs a precision-machined aerodynamic control device that effectively eliminates turbulence and airflow resistance, thereby reducing wind resistance and harmonic distortion by up to 3dB. This also eliminates airflow noise, while delivering extremely precise low-frequency control and unparalleled dynamic performance. Furthermore, the all-aluminum LaminairX components, separated from the cabinet by a layer of natural pure cork, not only stabilize the speaker structure but also further enhance bass control, ensuring a new level of sound performance.
