Thorens, at booth F01 this year, showcased several new turntable models for audiophiles, with the flagship New Reference turntable being a must-see. One of its most impressive features is its integrated active vibration isolation, developed in collaboration with Seismion. To achieve this, the New Reference features powerful and precise brakes on all four feet, holding the turntable in place in three dimensions. Extremely accurate sensors provide data on the turntable’s vibrations, even the slightest ones; adjustment elements in the feet immediately suppress any movement. If needed, a display on the turntable provides information on system vibrations. Furthermore, the New Reference uses a belt-driven heavy platter; the drive power also comes from a three-phase synchronous motor. This drive unit, made in Germany, utilizes true speed control. The platter’s speed sensor reports its speed to the electronics for correction. The New Reference also offers a platform that can accommodate up to three tonearms; the delivered units already include a tangential tonearm (Thiele TA-01) and a 12-inch Thorens TP-124 tonearm.

Meanwhile, three new turntable models, which debuted at the Munich High End Show this year, were also showcased at F01. The most eye-catching is the TD 124 DD Exclusive, a further development of the TD 124 DD 140th Anniversary model, whose exclusive components elevate vinyl music reproduction to a reference level. At the heart of the TD 124 DD Exclusive is the new 12-inch TP 124 tonearm, whose extended length significantly reduces tracking error angles, thereby greatly reducing distortion. Internal pure silver tonearm wires ensure maximum signal purity at the cartridge output. Another highlight is the moving coil cartridge specially developed by the Swiss company EMT Tontechnik. This design, reminiscent of the legendary “Tondose” in professional radio technology, is optimized for the 12-inch TP 124 tonearm. The cartridge case equipped with an SME lock ensures maximum compatibility.

Another new model is the TD 404 DD turntable, equipped with the powerful direct-drive motor of the TD 124 DD, renowned for its smooth operation and high torque. The mounted TP 160 tonearm features blade bearings, ensuring maximum accuracy during tracking and delivering excellent music reproduction with the high-damping platter. Another highlight is the improved e-Lift, featuring automatic stop functionality, which is not only easy to use but also reduces wear on the stylus and record. Three height-adjustable spring feet effectively decouple vibrations, and the sandwich-structured solid platter frame (including a 5 mm thick aluminum top plate) gives the platter extremely low resonance and a sleek appearance. Additionally, the TPN 124 linear external power supply is available as an option, effectively unleashing the full sonic potential of the TD 404 DD due to its exceptionally clean power delivery.

Furthermore, the Coturn portable turntable, with its ingenious design and novel appearance, attracted a large crowd at the event. It’s an essential travel accessory, just as user-friendly as a home turntable. Its compact design and robust solid aluminum construction make it incredibly durable. The concealed tonearm features an Audio-Technica AT 3600 moving magnet cartridge, and the functions and controls are displayed on a touchscreen. Audio output options include Bluetooth connectivity, high-level output (for amplifier connection), and a headphone jack (both using 3.5mm stereo jacks). The built-in rechargeable battery provides up to 16 hours of continuous use.
