Let music reveal its most beautiful side | PEAK Sonora and Octave intimately blended demonstration

On the afternoon of April 26, 2025, the Xinhang showroom hosted an unforgettable audio extravaganza, a “Close Encounter” audio demonstration jointly created by Danish loudspeaker brand PEAK’s Sonora compact floorstanding loudspeaker and German high-end vacuum tube amplifier brand Octave. This event not only showcased the craftsmanship of top-tier audio equipment but also allowed nearly twenty audiophiles to witness firsthand the ultimate charm of music reproduction through precise system pairing. The demonstration, centered on “Letting Music Reveal Its Most Beautiful Essence,” featured a dream team: the Danish PEAK Sonora two-way floorstanding loudspeaker, with its unique silk dome neodymium magnet tweeter and composite cabinet design, displayed transparent and brilliant high-frequency extension and robust low-frequency control; driving it were the German Octave HP 700 SE preamp and power amplifiers and RE 320 stereo power amplifier. The latter, powered by four KT150 vacuum tubes, delivers 130 watts per channel, retaining the classic tube amplifier’s character while possessing the speed and dynamics of a solid-state amplifier, making it a perfect match for the PEAK Sonora.

The front-end system utilizes the Italian Lector CDP-707 CD player, whose separate power supply design with three independent transformers significantly reduces noise interference. British Chord Company cables, PowerHAUS power strips, and PowerARAY noise-canceling plugs provide a continuous supply of clean power to the entire system. Every aspect of the series reflects our commitment to detail.

The demonstration opened with the fifth piece from the *Ling Ge* (a collection of Peking Opera pieces), “Sympathy for the Peasants.” This Peking Opera piece, performed by the young prodigy Tao Yang and the Central Broadcasting Children’s Choir, blends traditional instruments with modern orchestration. The pipa, guzheng, and other plucked instruments use rapid fingerpicking or staccato patterns to create a dynamic sense of labor. The pipa’s dense plucking in the prelude evokes the sound of farm tools turning the soil. The erhu, zhonghu, and other bowed string instruments provide a long, sustained background, creating a desolate atmosphere; the cello’s low register reinforces the profound imagery of the land, engaging in a dialogue with the children’s voices. Traditional percussion instruments like the banggu and wooden fish evoke the rhythm of labor in the fields; the addition of Western timpani or bass drum expands the spatial sense of the soundstage, reinforcing the powerful feeling of “every grain is hard-earned” in the poem. The overall soundstage is impressive; the vocals are centered and prominent, with instruments surrounding them, creating a three-dimensional space of “people working in nature.”

The most stunning part is undoubtedly the performance of Hugh Masekela’s classic track “Stimela” (also known as “Stimela (The Coal Train)”) from his album *Hope*. The song opens with percussion instruments (such as conga drums), humming vocals, and glissando on brass instruments imitating the sound of a train whistle and the rhythm of the tracks, systematically creating a sense of “the train approaching from afar.” The PEAK Sonora’s precise imaging reveals the singer’s nuanced lip and tongue movements and breath transitions with exquisite clarity, imbuing the voice with a velvety warmth. The Octave preamp and power amplifier deliver exceptional performance, handling the impact, speed, and contrast of percussion; the lifelike quality, texture, transients, and dynamics of vocals; and the metallic friction of the melody’s airflow. The breathless reaction of the live audience is the best testament to the system’s performance.

The warm characteristics of the PEAK Sonora speakers and Octave tube amplifiers complement each other, while the neutral style of the Lector CD player acts as a bridge between them. Furthermore, the use of the PowerHAUS power strip and PowerARAY noise-canceling power connector significantly enhances the quietness of the musical background, allowing even the most subtle spatial details of the recording to be heard, even in extremely soft passages.

At the end of the event, several seasoned audiophiles remarked that the performance of the system on-site completely overturned their traditional understanding of vacuum tube amplifiers. This system retained the liveliness of analog sources while also presenting the details of modern high-resolution sources, truly achieving the best of both worlds. In the future, we will continue to hold cross-brand collaboration demonstrations to explore the infinite possibilities of audio aesthetics.

This 90-minute demonstration was not only a technical showcase of top-tier equipment but also a profound dialogue about “how to let music speak.” The intimate fusion of PEAK Sonora and Octave helped us understand that a truly excellent audio system is not simply a matter of piling up equipment, but about making every note a carrier of emotion.
